Voice lessons

We approach vocals similarly to other instruments. We act as vocal coaches, which means we want to help you learn to sing the songs you love, better. We’ll help build your skills and technique around specific pieces of music that you choose.

  • The first step is to contact us for an introductory session
  • We’ll ask you to prepare two songs to sing (whatever genre you choose)
  • Please bring accompanying tracks with you (CD, flash drive, your laptop, etc.)
  • We may ask you to repeat certain sections and/or to sing certain parts a’cappela
  • We’ll give you a live critique and some tips on how to improve
  • If we and you enjoy this session, you can elect to sign up for private lessons

Please note, this isn’t an “audition,” we’ve just found this to be an effective way to start the relationship.

“InTune Studios gave me consistent feedback and helped me develop my voice by giving me actual strategies I could practice and apply. I recently sang lead vocals for the first time with only a guitar backing me at a paid gig!”

Studio rates and payment policy

We give most of our private lessons Monday through Friday from 11am-7pm, and a limited number on Saturday. Private lessons are $50/hour.

We recommend one hour lessons once a week for all of our students. Half hour lessons are available for students in elementary school for $30/lesson.

Lessons are paid for by the month on the last lesson of the prior month.

We give most of our lessons from one of our two home studios, but will make a limited number of house calls.

If you’re a busy professional and work during the day, we can make arrangements and come to your office. Just give us a call and ask.

Cancellation policy

Lessons cancelled within 24 hours must be paid for and cannot be rescheduled unless due to illness or emergency.

Lessons cancelled with more than 24 hours notice can be rescheduled to a time different than the regularly scheduled lesson, and within two weeks of the cancelled lesson.

We are flexible and understanding so if you need a specific arrangement we’ll do our best to make it happen.

Thanks…Dave and Lee

So, you think you can’t sing?

For those people who don’t believe they can sing, here are some words of encouragement. Many people claim that they can’t sing because they’re tone deaf. While that may be true, our research has shown that true tone deafness (amusia) is very rare. As rare as only 5% of the U.S. population. People that actually have amusia aren’t just unable to differentiate pitch, they don’t hear “music” at all. They might as well be hearing pots and pans being banged around. Many people that have amusia also can’t reproduce rhythms or other musical elements.

The more common problem is that people are unsure of how to use their voice to reproduce the sounds they can hear. You can think of it as being similar to having bad rhythm. You can hear beats and patterns, you just can’t reproduce them with your body. Other common causes people feeling as if they are tone deaf are short musical memory and lack of desire. We’ll be writing blog posts about this in the future.
